October 6-10

Early Dismissal October 10th at 11:00

Zoo permission slips: Please have them turned in by 10/8. I have many requests for chaperones and I will try to take as many as we can.

Spelling: (Lesson 7)  The pretest will be on Monday and the final test will be on Friday. If your child gets 0, 1, or 2 wrong they will be challenge and have two activities. If they get more than do they will have the regular work. All homework is due on Friday.
ELA:  We are doing centers. The students move to different groups. In one group students are continuing to Read Ivan. In a different group, students are reading Two Days in May and Night of the Pufflings and related the stories to our big idea of: Standing up for what you believe in. In the last groups students are using their descriptive and persuasive writing to get a monster to buy their haunted house.
Social Studies:  We will start our new unit on Downers Grove! This is a very fun unit for students.
Science: We will start chapter 4 lesson 4 this week. The test will be the following week.  
Math Class (Only for students in MY MATH CLASS):  We have started unit 2. We will be working on lessons number sense with addition and subtraction. The test will be some time next week!

ELA:  We are continuing read our favorite novel “The One and Only Ivan”. We will do a lot of close reading which means we are digging deep into the text.   
We will start our descriptive writing unit! Eventually this will lead to a fun essay explaining why someone would want to buy your haunted house!
Social Studies:  We are finishing continents and oceans this week. The test will be on Tuesday 9/23.
Science: We will continue focusing on lesson 2, types of ecosystems as well as making our own ecosystem.
Math Class (Only for students in MY MATH CLASS):  We will have our first Math test on chapter one on Wednesday 9/24. The textbook was sent home and can be used for studying. Students can bring it back to school on Wednesday.

Week of 9/15-9/19

ELA:  This week, we’ll continue getting to know The One and Only Ivan, a mighty silverback gorilla.   We’ll be starting our anchor text, The One and Only Ivan this week.  
We will continue working with “The Sentence”. The unit 1 test is scheduled for September 17th. Students have brought their textbook home and can keep it at home until the test.
Social Studies:  We are all finished with directions. We will begin this week with continents and oceans.
Science: We have started ch. 4 ecosystems. We will be focusing on lesson 2, types of ecosystems as well as making our own ecosystem.
Math Class:  We HAVE our MATH CLASSES! We will be working with unit 1: Numbers this week.

Week of September 8-12


Thank you to all those parents who attended our Curriculum Night. I hope it was informative. If you ever have a question or comment for me, please let me know!
We are truly getting into our 3rd grade curriculum and are starting quizzes and tests very soon. Watch the blog for news in each subject!   
Spelling: Second lesson of the year (Lesson 3)  The pretest will be on Monday and the final test will be on Friday. If your child gets 0, 1, or 2 wrong they will be challenge and have two activities. If they get more than do they will have the regular work. All homework is due on Friday.
ELA:  This week, we’ll get to know Ivan, a mighty silverback gorilla.   We’ll be
starting our anchor text, The One and Only Ivan.  

We have started our English lesson on “The Sentence”. The workbook will be coming home if the students have homework. Each lesson was pretested and some students will be “challenge” for certain lessons. You will see a (CH) in their assignment books if they are. The unit 1 test is scheduled for September 17th.
Social Studies:  We'll continue our focus on directions and the compass
rose this week.  There will be a short quiz on 9/11.
Science: We'll start our first unit on ecosystems (Chapter 4) this
week.
Math Class:  We should be determining your
child’s math teacher very soon!  In the meantime, our homeroom has been
working on the “Math Minute” and several of the Mathematical Practices.

May 12-16


Happy Mother’s Day to all our Mother’s! We appreciate all you do!
Friday, May 16 is a half day. We are dismissed at 11:00 am.

Math:
We will continue working on our data and graphing chapter. The chapter 12 data test will be on Thurs., May 15. Please continue to practice math facts with you child.

Reading: 
We will have our poetry quiz on Tuesday, May 13.   Then we will be transitioning our reading class into learning all about Egypt!

Spelling: 
This week we will be working with more fourth grade words.  There will be a pretest on Monday and we will have the final test on Friday. If they get more than 2 words wrong, they will have the regular work. (two assigned activities) The homework is due on Thursday.

English:
We will be continuing unit 6 pronouns.  

Social Studies:
We will be finishing up out last couple pages in the Chicago book. The third test will be may 23rd.  

Science:
We will continue with chapter 1: Inquiry. The chapter 1 test will be on Tuesday, May 20th.

Week of May 5-May 9


Thank you all for coming to open house! I had such a great time seeing everyone and watching the students show off their projects!!
 Students will be taking the last Reading and Math Map’s test this week. We are scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday. Please make sure you child gets a goodnight’s rest and eats a healthy breakfast!

Math:
We will continue working on our data and graphing chapter. Please continue to practice math facts with you child.

Reading: 
We will focus this week on poetry. We will be working in our Daily 5 groups while learning about poetry. There will be a poetry quiz on Tuesday, May 13.   

Spelling: 
This week we will be working with more fourth grade words.  There will be a pretest on Monday and we will have the final test on Friday. If they get more than 2 words wrong, they will have the regular work. (two assigned activities) The homework is due on Thursday.


English:
We will be starting a new unit: Unit 6 Pronouns. We will begin with a pretest and focus on lesson 1.  

Social Studies:
We will be finishing up out last couple pages in the Chicago book. The test will be in a couple of weeks.

Science:
We will start a new chapter. We will be skipping around to chapter 1: Inquiry.

Week of April 21-25


Back to a full week of SCHOOL!!

Thank you for donating to the treasure chest! We have been running low, if you would like to donate treasures, please feel free to send them in whenever.

Math:
We will be finishing up chapter 9 this week and the test will be on Thursday, April 24.

Reading: 
We will focus this week on friendly letter writing. We will be writing a letter and sending it to a friend. Please have students bring in a stamp by Thursday.  

Spelling: 
This week we will be working with number words.  There will be a pretest on Monday and we will have the final test on Friday. If they get more than 2 words wrong, they will have the regular work. (Cursive sheet and two assigned activities) The homework is due on Thursday.


English:
We will be finishing up unit 5 correct sentences. The test will be on Friday 4/25. A study guide went home.

Social Studies:
We will jump back into working on our Chicago book and packets. The next Chicago quiz (#2) will be scheduled for Tuesday, April 22.

Science:
We have finished our fun Space unit! We will take a short break from Science and work on exciting projects to go with our Chicago unit!
