Week of September 30-October 4

Math
We have started chapter 2 addition and will continue to work on addition. Please be practicing the addition facts at home.

Spelling
We will be on List 6 this week. The Pretest is on Monday and the final test will be on Friday. If your child gets 0,1, or 2 wrong on the pretest they will have 2 challenge activities and the cursive sheet, they have the option to take the test on Friday. If they get more than 2 words wrong, they will have the regular work. (Cursive sheet and two assigned activities) The homework is due on Thursday.

Reading
We will continue our book buddies this week while putting into practice our complete Daily 5 rotations. We are working on building stamina while becoming better readers and writers.  

English
We will be presenting our Me Bags to the class for a grade on Monday and Tuesday. Your child will be getting an assigned day. Please be practicing over the weekend good eye contact and volume. We will then be starting our descriptive writing unit after we finish our presentations.

Social Studies

We will start the week off by learning about hemispheres and how they relate to our world.


Science
We will start chapter 4 lesson 3 this week!

Week of September 23-27

Johnny Appleseed day is on Thursday, September 26. Students need to bring one PEELED, CORED, and SLICED apple to school in a baggie. We will be making apple sauce in class to eat. If you would like to donate small bowls, spoons, or 100% apple juice boxes for that day that would be greatly appreciated!!! (19 of each)

Math
We have finished with Chapter 1 and we will start with chapter 2: Addition. Please continue to practice addition and subtraction facts at home.

Reading
We will be starting book buddies this week while continuing our Daily 5 study. Students will be paired up with each other and reading a leveled book. During work on writing, students will be working on a comprehension activity as well as a project that corresponds with their book.

English
We finished our first English Unit! We will now be starting a writing project. It is called “Me Bag”. Students will go home and find three items that represent themselves. In class we will be writing a 5 paragraph essay about how those items represent them. Then the students will read their essay to the class for a grade.

Social Studies

We will continue studying continents and oceans. The quiz over continents and oceans will be Thursday 9-26.


Science
We will continue to focus on Chapter 4 lesson 2: Ecosystems.

Week of September 16-20

Math
We will continue with chapter 1: Place value. There will be a chapter 1 test on Thursday, September 19. Please be reviewing the book they bring home.

Spelling

Reading
We reviewed many reading strategies this week. We also made a record of building our reading stamina to 15:55 seconds this week! WAY TO GO CLASS! We will start a story called Lost and Found next week and there will be a vocabulary test over the words on Friday, September 20.

English
We will be finishing up our very first unit in English next week. The unit 1 test will be on Thursday, September 19. There will be a study guide that will go home on Monday and your child can take home a textbook to help review as well.

Social Studies

We will start our new Social Studies lesson: Continents and Oceans.

Science
We will focus on chapter 4 lesson 2 in science.

Week of September 9-13

Magazine drive starts Tuesday, 9-10-13

Math
In Math this week we will start Chapter 1: Place Value. We will be focusing on lessons 1-3 and have a graded checkpoint on Thursday.

Spelling
We will be on List 3 this week. The Pretest is on Monday and the final test will be on Friday. If your child gets 0,1, or 2 wrong on the pretest they will have 2 challenge activities and the cursive sheet, they have the option to take the test on Friday. If they get more than 2 words wrong, they will have the regular work. (Cursive sheet and two assigned activities) The homework is due on Thursday.

We will be starting reading with learning different strategies good readers use. We will be incorporation these strategies into reading our own books and building our stamina for reading.

English
We will continue with chapter 1: The sentence. We will focus on lessons 2-5. There will be a graded review on lessons 1-3 on Wednesday.

Social Studies

We will continue with directions this week. There will be a short quiz on directions on Friday. A study guide will go home this week.

Science
We will focusing on chapter 4 lesson 1 in science.

Week of September 2-6

We made it through our first week of 3rd grade!! I'd like to remind you all of Curriculum Night on Wednesday, 9/4, at 6:30. It will start in the Prairieview gym.   Also, on Tuesday and Friday, our class will be going to the lab to take our Maps tests.  A good breakfast, snack, and lunch will help your child do well.   Also, please make sure they get enough rest.   


No school Monday, September 2. 


Math
Welcome to my Math class! We will be meeting 2 days this week. Please start practicing facts at home with your child.


Spelling
We will start spelling this week. The Pretest is on Tuesday and the final test will be on Friday. If your child gets 0,1, or 2 wrong on the pretest they will have 1 challenge activitiy and the cursive sheet, they have the option to take the test on Friday. If they get more than 2 words wrong, they will have the regular work. (Cursive sheet and one assigned activities) The homework is due on Thursday. (It will be made into a packet on Tuesday for them and they will need to turn the packet in on Thursday) Please look for the "All About Spelling" page in their Spelling folder on Tuesday.


Reading
We will be starting reading with learning different strategies good readers use. We will be incorporation these strategies into reading our own books and building our stamina for reading. 



English
We will start chapter 1, what is a sentence,  in English this week

Social Studies

We will start the year off with learning directions and the compass rose. 



Science
In Science we will start chapter 4 ecosystems.

First week of School!

It was so GREAT meeting with all of you at Open House! I am confident that we will have a great year together!

A few reminders:
Please have your child bring in a hanger and a t-shirt by Friday, August 30th. We will be doing a fun project with them and they will be returned next week.
No school Monday, September 2nd (Labor Day)
Curriculum Night:  Wednesday, September 4th at 6:30. You will receive information about third grade.

Now until the end of the YEAR!

WOW! A whole school year has come to an end. As I try to think back to the beginning of the year, I cannot believe how far our class has come and how fast.  The students have made such an impact on my life especially because they were the first class I had the privilege to teach. Each one is so special and has so much potential to do wonderful things in this world. I cannot wait for years to come to see what they have accomplished!

Here is our last blog for this year! There are many things between now and the end of the year. We have finished all tests/quizzes/homework. 

Friday, May 31, 2013
·        Bowling trip to Brunswick from 9:00-11:00. Students need to bring a sack lunch to school. Hot lunch will not be offered tomorrow due to the bowling trip.
Monday, June 3, 2013
·        Field Day 12:30-1:30 For safety concerns, children will NOT be able to participate in the field games wearing flip flops. Please have your child wear gym shoes or have shoes to change into. Thank you for your participation!
Also, lunch will be served at this picnic. If your child does not eat hot dogs or would like more than one hot dog, please send a sack lunch that day. Thank you!
