Week of December 3-7

Important Info:

We had a GREEEEEAT Downers Grove Field Trip! Thank you to all the parents who made it possible and everyone who was willing to help! Here are a few pictures of our first field trip!

Thank you to the students who donated to the treasure chest this week! If you would like to donate to the treasure chest, that would be very helpful.

Math:

We have started our time unit. It has been great learning how to read an analog clock! We will continue working with time. You can expect a test over time sometime the week of December 9^th. Please continue to study math facts with your child.

Reading: 

We will finish up The Keeping Quilt with the vocab test on Wednesday. Thank you to Mrs. Vanni for coming in having a presentation on quilting. A new skill will be added next week: Evaluate & Visualize.

We will read Dogzilla from our reading textbook.

Spelling: 

We will be on List 11 this week. The Pretest is on Monday and the final test will be on Friday. If your child gets 0,1, or 2 wrong on the pretest they will have 2 challenge activities and the cursive sheet, they have the option to take the test on Friday. If they get more than 2 words wrong, they will have the regular work. (Cursive sheet and two assigned activities) The homework is due on Thursday.

English:

We are will continue on Unit 2: Nouns. We will concentrate on lesson 8 and 9.

Social Studies:

We have already begun our study of the current Downers Grove and it was so cool to have the opportunity to go to DG and see all that we have learned. There is a quiz on Modern Day DG on Tuesday 12/4. This will include a couple questions about the history as well.

Science:

We have started chapter 11-MATTER!!! Matter Matters~! We will be focusing on lesson 2 in class.

Week of the 19 and 20th, and also Nov. 26-30

Happy Thanksgiving! I am so thankful for so many things in my life. I hope this holiday you can share one thing you are thankful for with your family!

Downers Grove Field Trip: Is November 29, 2012 from 9:00 to 2:15. A maximum of $10.00 could be brought for shopping purposes after lunch. If you are not chaperoning the trip, you can still come to the restaurant and enjoy pizza with us. (Just pay separately)

Math:

We are working on money! The test will be Monday, November 19. We will start our chapter on time Monday, November 26^th.

Reading: 

We will be starting our next reading skill, self-questioning. As readers, we need to be able to stop during our reading and ask ourselves pertinent questions which will help us gain a better understanding of the text. Our story will be from the basal. It is called The Keeping Quilt.

Spelling: 

There will be no spelling next week 11/19-11/20. We will resume Spelling the week of the 26^th, with list 10. The pretest will be on Monday. The homework is due on Thursday and the test will be on Friday.

English:

We are will continue on Unit 2: Nouns. We will concentrate on lesson 5-7.

Social Studies:

We are finished with our history of Downers Grove unit.  We will begin learning about Modern Day Downers Grove and things that are in our town. The quiz over modern day will tentatively be Friday, November 30.

Science:

We are almost done with Chapter 4 Ecosystems. The chapter 4 test will be Tuesday, November 20. We will then start chapter 11- Matter!

Week of November 12-16

Veteran’s Day Monday: No school!

Math:

We are working on money! This is a very fun chapter for us. A checkpoint will be Friday, November 16, and the test will tentatively be Monday, November 19.

Reading: 

We will continue studying synonyms and antonyms this week. We will also meet in our book groups to continue/finish up our current novels. Lastly, we will be doing some turkey-related activities. The students are bringing home a turkey today that they need to disguise. They will be writing about it this coming week.

Spelling: 

There will be no pretest or test; however, there are Thanksgiving words that will be given out on Tuesday and a homework assignment which goes along with the words due on Friday.

English:

We are working on Unit 2: Nouns. We just finished lesson 1 and continue to work through the lessons. 

Social Studies:

We will continue our Downers Grove unit. The final test over all of the history will be Friday, November 16. A study guide is stapled to their packet. This is a great study tool.

Science:

We are continuing Chapter 4 Ecosystems. We will be finishing lesson 3 and working on lesson 4. Please be using the online textbook to help review the lessons. The chapter 4 test will tentatively be set for Tuesday, November 20.

Weel of November 5-9

Important Info:
We had wonderful time at our Halloween Party and Halloween Parade. Thank you to all the volunteers who helped make it possible. 

We will not have school on Monday, November 5th or Tuesday November 6th. 

 
We will be taking a field trip to Downers Grove as part of our Social Studies unit about our city on Thursday, November 29th from 9 am to 2 pm. Everyone will eat at Giordano's restaurant (please send a cold lunch if your child decides not sign up for a pizza lunch). If you would like, though it is not necessary, students can also bring $5-$8 in cash on the day of the field trip. Your student can spend this money at any of the downtown Downers Grove shops. Each student will be responsible for their own money. Please send in the permission slip by November 16th.  Thank you!

Math:
In Math we will have our Chapter 4 test on Wednesday 11/7/12, when the students return. It has been pushed back for more review time. On Thursday we will start chapter 5- money!


Reading: 
This week we will be focusing on  synonym analogies throughout this week and next.  This will take the place of any spelling lessons, tests, or homework.  In addition we will continue working on in small groups practicing all our skills.

Spelling: 
 We will not have spelling this week.

English:
We will start unit 2- nouns and work through the unit.

Social Studies:We will continue learning about the history of Downers Grove.

Science:
In Science, we will continue to study chapter 4-ecosystems.
