Early Dismissal on Tuesday at 11:00.

3^rd grade goes bowling to Brunswick Zone on Thursday.

Whole school trip to the Tivoli on Friday.

The week we return, we will have MAP’s testing for Reading on Tuesday, January 7 at 8:05. Please make sure your child eats a healthy breakfast that week so they are prepared for the test. The Math MAP’s will be on Friday, January 10.

We have an in school presentation called High Tech High Touch coming to our classroom on Tuesday, January 7 to help us learn more about Matter. Please bring in $7.50 for this.

Math
We will work with dividing and multiplying by 5’s and 10’s this week. The test will be on Friday, December 20^th.

Spelling
We will not be having a pretest. The students will get 15 holiday words that they will need to use in a story and in cursive. That is what will be graded this week. It is due on Thursday.

Reading
We will continue our Christmas around the world unit. There will be in class presentations on Thursday.  

English
We will be testing Unit 3 verbs on Thursday, December 19^th.

Social Studies
 Modern Day DG test will be on Monday, December 16^th.

Science
We are done with Science.

Week of Decemeber 9-13

Math
We will stating chapter 6. In this chapter we will be working with multiplying and dividing the numbers 2, 5, and 10. There will be no chapter test; instead on Friday 12/13 we will have a test on all the multiplication and division facts of 2’s. (2X1, 2X2, 2X3 etc.) (2/1, 2/2, 2/3 etc.)

The following week we will be working with 5 and 10’s. We will have a test over 5’s and 10’s on 12/20.

Spelling
We will be on List 13 this week. The Pretest is on Monday and the final test will be on Friday. If your child gets 0,1, or 2 wrong on the pretest they will have 2  challenge activities and the cursive sheet, they have the option to take the test on Friday. If they get more than 2 words wrong, they will have the regular work. (Cursive sheet and two assigned activities)  The homework is due on Thursday.

Reading
We will start a new unit; Christmas around the world. In this unit, students will work in groups and be given a country. They will be doing research on that country and then making a poster to present to the class. We will get to learn all about how other countries celebrate this holiday. This will carry over to the following week.

English
We will continue unit 3 Verbs. We will work on lesson 4-7. The unit 3 verbs test will be Thursday 12/19


Social Studies
 We will continue learning about our Modern Day Downers Grove. The test Modern Day Dg test is scheduled for Monday, 12/16.

Science
We have begun our Chapter 11 Matter unit. Due to the holiday break and the many tests already scheduled, we will not have a chapter test and instead just be quizzed on the open book reviews of each lesson.

We will continue division for the remainder of the week. There will be a chapter test on Chapter 5 Division on Friday, December 6. A review will go home on Wednesday and that will be a great study tool. The review is due back on Friday.

We will start a new unit: Unit 3 Verbs. The pretest will be on Tuesday and we will work with lessons 1-3.

Social Studies
 We will continue learning about our Modern Day Downers Grove. We had a blast on the field trip and it was awesome to have such great chaperons participating!

Science
We will start our Matter unit this week and focus on lesson 1.

We will begin our new unit, division. We will start by learning what division means and how we get our quotient. Then we will be relating division to subtraction. There will be no Math on Friday due to the DG field Trip.

We will be working on the strategy cause and effect. We will be reading If you Take a Mouse to School. We will then be doing some activities with cause and effect.

Social Studies

We will continue to study Downers Grove. Our field trip for Downers Grove is scheduled for November 22. Please make sure the permission slip and money for pizza is turned in by November 13^th.


Science
We will be finishing chapter 9-weather. The final test will be on Thursday, November 14. The study guide went home Thursday 11-7.

All parent teacher conferences are held on Wednesday and Thursday for our class. If you forgot your time, please email me and I can let you know! See you soon!

We had a blast on Halloween! Thank you for all the parents that came and helped our party run so smoothly. Also, thank you to the parents who donated goodies for our party! They were yummy!


Math
We will continue with multiplication. We will be reviewing grouping, arrays, and repeated addition. We will also go over problem solving using multiplication.

Spelling
We will be on List 10 this week. The Pretest is on Monday and the final test will be on Thursday. If your child gets 0,1, or 2 wrong on the pretest they will have2  challenge activities and the cursive sheet, they have the option to take the test on Thursday. If they get more than 2 words wrong, they will have the regular work. (Cursive sheet and two assigned activities)  The homework is due on Thursday along with the test because of the short week.)

Reading
We will have a quiz over the Cliffhanger vocab words on Tuesday, November 5.  We will also continue working with the skill inferring.

English

We are finished with the pretest on Unit 2 nouns. We will begin with lesson 1- what are nouns, and work with lessons 2 and 3.

Social Studies

We will continue to study Downers Grove. Our field trip for Downers Grove is scheduled for November 22. The permission slips will go home on Monday 11-4. Please bring those in as soon as possible. Also, we will need parent volunteers for that trip. Please email me if you are interested on going (from 9:00-2:00). I will collect the names and just randomly choose volunteers if we get more than we need.

Science
We will continue to study Chapter 9- the water cycle. We will be focusing on lesson 3 this week.

The Halloween parade will be at 1:15 p.m. on Thursday, October 31st.  Then we will have our classroom party at 1:30 p.m.

Please keep in mind the following guidelines when helping your child pick out a Halloween costume:

1. We only have 15 minutes for costume changes. Please make sure your child can change into his/her costume easily and by themselves. If the costume can be worn over their clothes, then both the time to change and the chances of losing any clothes is minimized.

2. If the costume involves make up, please apply it before your child comes to school. If you send your child in with makeup, then your child has to be able to apply it themselves. 

3. Please do not send any weapons (guns, swords, etc.) as part of the costume. Save those for trick-or-treating.

4. We will not have time to change back into our clothes for dismissal. Your child will wear their costume home.


Math
We will begin chapter 4: multiplication this week. We will be working with all different ways to multiply numbers including: arrays, grouping, and repeated addition.

Spelling
This week we will work on Halloween words. There will be a homework packet given to the students on Monday. The homework packet is due Thursday. There will be a final test on the words on Friday.

Reading
We will continue using Daily 5 this week as well as the teacher table. We will be starting our new basil story: Cliffhanger. We will still be using the skill inferring as we read.

English
The final draft haunted house is due on Monday. We will be decorating our haunted houses in class. On Friday we will take a pretest on unit 3-verbs.

Social Studies

We will continue to study Downers Grove. Our field trip for Downers Grove is scheduled for November 22. The permission slips will go home in about 2 weeks.

Science
We will continue to study Chapter 9- the water cycle. We will be focusing on lesson 2 this week.

We have started our next unit: SUBTRACTION! There will be a test on subtraction on Friday, October 25. Please be reviewing this chapter with them throughout the week at home.

We will be writing our final draft of our Haunted House descriptive writing story this week. We will also be designing our house based on what we wrote.

Social Studies

We have started our Downers Grove unit. The students get very excited when we learn about him. We can’t wait to use our knowledge on the field trip!
Science
We have started a new chapter. Chapter 9- the water cycle. We will be focusing on lesson 2 this week.
