Week of May 8-12

Happy Cinco de Mayo everyone!  We have a very busy week coming up…  Monday and Tuesday we’ll be taking our Spring MAP tests; Monday will be math, Tuesday will be ELA. We are encouraging our students to take their time and try their very hardest. A good night’s rest and a healthy breakfast and snack are also important for success.  On Wednesday, we’ll be listening to your children read and answer comprehensive questions in order to find their F&P (Fountas & Pinnell) level.
On Thursday, we’ll be visiting Brookfield Zoo in order to observe the behavior of gorillas in Tropic World.  Please make sure your child has a disposable sack lunch on that day.
Friday is an early dismissal day!
Coming up Next Week:
Spelling:  The Menu homework is due on or before Friday, May 12.  Also, a test will occur on that day.

Reading & Language Arts:  We are continuing  The One and Only Ivan.  We’ll be focusing on continuing the reading and discussion using our Ivan packets.
We will also be finishing up the letters to our second grade pen pals.  This is a very exciting time in third grade!

The final reading log for May is now in your hands.  They will be due on or before 5/30.

Completed cursive workbooks are due on or before May 18. Please know this was assigned at the very beginning of the school year and every morning is devoted to getting some of it done.

Social Studies:   We will be taking a hiatus from Social Studies.

Science:   Chapter 4 in our textbooks, “Ecosystems”, will be continued.  We will be finishing up lesson 1 with an open book quiz on Tuesday.

Mrs. Mandru's Math Class:  We continue Unit 7 this week on “Extending Multiplication and Fractions”.  We’ll focus on fractions this week.
