Week of Feb. 25-March 1






We have an early Dismissal on Tuesday. Students will be dismissed at 11:00.

Cancer Smasher starts this week. If you would like to donate to the cause please bring in your money Monday-Friday.
ISAT’s start on Tuesday, 3/5, they will be going for 2 weeks.

Math:
As we continue to approach ISAT’s, we will be using other resources to prepare for ISAT testing. This week we will start on division of 3’s. Please continue to review multiplication and division facts with your child.

Reading: 
We will continue to work on our African American biographies, as well as preparing for ISAT’s. The majority of the biographies will be done in school. If they are still not completed by 2-28, then it will be sent home to be return on Friday 3-1.

Spelling: 
We are starting spelling AGAIN! This week will be list 17. The pretest is on Monday and the Final Test is on Friday. If your child gets 0,1, or 2 wrong on the pretest they will have 2 challenge activities and the cursive sheet, they have the option to take the test on Friday. If they get more than 2 words wrong, they will have the regular work. (Cursive sheet and two assigned activities) The homework is due on Thursday.

English:
The students will continue their autobiographies this week. This week we will type the final copies. We will also be starting Unit 4 Adjectives in our English text. The pretest will be on Wednesday.

Social Studies:
We have started our Chicago unit! It is so fun to hear all the knowledge that the students already have! For the Chicago unit, there will be quizzes along the way. Our first quiz will approximately be on Monday, March 4. Because that is ISAT week, I will be letting the students use the book and their packets for this quiz. For quizzes to follow, they will not be able to use their books/packets. 

Science:
The Chapter 14 test has been pushed back to 2-28-13

Week of February 18-22



We had a fantastic Valentine’s Day Party! Thank you to everyone who helped make this day run so smoothly!

I am sure I don’t have to remind everyone, but there is no school on Monday, due to President’s Day.

Spring Picture Day is On Thursday.

Math:
We have completed chapter 21. Because we are quickly approaching ISAT’s, we will be taking a break from our textbook and using other resources to prepare for ISAT testing. We also have completed our multiplication tests. This week we will start on division. Please continue to review multiplication and division facts with your child.

Reading: 


This week will be finishing up with suffixes and prefixes. There will be a test on prefix/suffix on Friday, 2-22. In honor of Black history month, the students will be checking out a biography on a famous African American. Then they will be using their skills of summarizing to make a “snapshot” book of their person life. 

Spelling: 
No spelling this week, due to prefix/suffix

English:
The students will continue their autobiographies this week. The students have been writing an essay about themselves. This week we will write the rough drafts and type the final copies.

Social Studies:
We will begin our CHICAGO unit this week! This is a very fun and interactive unit for the students. 

Science:
This week we will finish Chapter 14 lesson 4. The test on Chapter 14 will be on Wednesday 2/27-13

Week of February 11-15



 

On Tuesday, we will have people from a local dentist office, come speak to the students about healthy ways to take care of their teeth.

Valentine’s Day is on Thursday! Our class party starts at 1:30. If your child is bringing in Valentine’s, PLEASE make sure they are not addressed to the students. They can just write their name in the from section. We have 25 students in the class.

Math:
We have started chapter 21-metric measurement. We will not have a chapter test, but rather a quiz over the material on Tuesday 2/12. There is a study guide in their Math folder of things to review. Next week will also be our final week of multiplication tests before we start division facts. The final multiplication test will be cumulative. That will be on Friday, 2-15.

Reading: 
We have finished reading Seal Surfer unit. We will spend next week continuing with prefix/suffixes, but mainly focus on suffixes. We will also be working in our ISAT coach books to prepare for ISAT’s. 

Spelling: 
No spelling this week, due to prefix/suffix.

English:
We are finally finished with verbs! That was a long unit! We will be taking a break from our textbooks and starting autobiographies. This will be about a week and a half long. The students will be writing an essay about themselves. We will start by working on each individual paragraph, then we will write the rough draft, and then finally the final draft. Please have a discussion this weekend about the day they were born, the city and hospital they were born, and maybe some details on their life from newborn to about 5.

Social Studies:
We will be testing on Chapter 3 culture on Tuesday, 2-12. Each person should have their textbooks at home. We made a study guide out of their notes and quizzes from this chapter. The textbook can come back to school on Tuesday. This was a favorite Social Studies lesson for the students and me! I got to learn so much about each child!

Science:
We took a break from Science due to culture day, so this week we will continue with lesson 3.

Week of February 4-8

 

We have a lot going on this week...
Monday we will have a presentation at 9:30 about President Lincoln.
Tuesday will be the district Spelling Bee at 10:00.
Culture day will begin on Tuesday and continue through Friday.

Math:
We are done with chapter 6 data. We will start Chapter 20-US customary units. We will also be working on times 6, 7, and 8 this week. The times test will be on Friday.

Reading: 
We have finished our books buddies reading and project. They have turned out great. Next week we will start the story Seal Surfer in our textbook. There will be a vocabulary quiz on Thursday, Feb. 7, over the words.

Spelling: 
We will be taking a break from Spelling and working on a unit of prefixes and suffixes. This will continue for a few weeks, so there will not be Spelling homework or a test. There will be other sorts of homework.

English:
We will be finishing up our verbs unit this week. The unit test will be on Friday, Feb. 8. Please be reviewing at home there are 12 lessons that the students will be tested on. Pages 90-140 in the textbook will be great review.

Social Studies:
We will continue working on chapter 3-Culture. The culture day presentations start Tuesday. It is a good idea for the students to have note cards to use the day they have their presentations. They will be graded on both their oral part of the presentation as well as the poster/other extra items.

Science:
We will continue chapter 14-heat, light, and sound.
