Week of February 27-March 3

Week of 2/27/17 - 3/3/17

We had a delightful week in third grade starting with an in-school field trip on Tuesday about matter. A scientist from High Touch, High Tech came in and taught us all about the three states of matter.    

Also, We had culture day! We were able to learn so many new things about each other's culture! I hope the students had fun!

Coming up Next Week:

Spelling:  New spelling words will be going home on Monday.  I am asking that 4 activities be completed: one from each column and another of the student’s choice.  This assignment will be due on or before March 10.  

Reading & Language Arts: We will begin reading about Chicago as part of an ELA/Social Studies time. We will start with the history of the land and be filling out an "Eyewitness Chicago" packet using text dependent questions. We will also continue stations.

February reading logs are due February, 28th.  A March log will be going home Wednesday.

Social Science:  We have begun our Space chapter. This is a favorite among the students. We will finish up lesson 1 with a notes sheet and an open book quiz.

Mrs. Mandru's Math Class:  We have finished unit 5 and we will be starting unit 6 this week. We will focus on the question, what are quadrilaterals and its attributes. The times 7 test will be on Thursday, since Friday is a half day and we will not be meeting for math!

We had a great time at the Valentine's party! Thank you to the parents that volunteered to come or drop something off, we really appreciate it!

We’ll be having an in-school field trip on Tuesday that we like to call “Matter Matters.”  Scientists from High Touch, High Tech will be coming in to teach us all about the states of matter.  

I hope you all have a wonderful, long weekend with your family.  

Coming up Next Week:

Spelling:  Your child will need to hand in 4 activities from the Menu on or before Friday, 2/24.  The test will also be on Friday.

Reading & Language Arts:  We continue our unit Culture and Traditions.  We’ll be presenting our “Culture Day” projects this week.  Please let me know if you have any questions.

Science:   We just finished our matter test and we will start space this week!

Mrs. Mandru's Math Class:  We will be finishing up unit 5 this week. The test is on Wednesday, February, 22. The study guide is a great tool to help study! We will not be having a times test due to no school on Monday.

Week of February 13-16

Our Valentine’s Day party will be on Tuesday. Thank you in advance to the many wonderful parents who are volunteering to come on in and also those who are donating for the party! You can have your child sign their name on each valentine. We have 22 students in the class.

We’ll be having an in-school field trip on Tuesday, 2/21, It is all about Matter! Scientist will be coming in and doing some experiments with us!

Coming up Next Week:

Spelling:  New spelling words will be coming home on Monday. Your child will need to hand in 4 activities from the Menu on or before Friday, 2/24.

Reading & Language Arts:  We will be continuing our culture and traditions. A letter will go home on Monday explaining a presentation that students will doing. They will be reading 3 chapters from their culture day paper, then they will explain how this country is connected to them, and finally they can bring in 2 showcase items.

We will also be finishing up our immigration scrapbooks that will be displayed at open house!

Social Studies:  We just finished out culture and immigration test and we will be taking a break from social studies. We do have Mr. Blocker coming in every week for Jr. Achievement!

Science:   We will be finishing up our matter unit and taking our test on Thursday, 2-16. A study packet went home already.

Mrs. Mandru's Math Class:  We will continue Unit 5, Multiplication, Division, and Area.  The Chapter test will be on Tuesday, February 21st. The study guide will go home on 2-13 and be due back on 2-16.

The X6 test will be on Thursday, February 16th as well.

Week of Feb. 6-10

The 100th day of school is coming!!   We’ll be celebrating on Monday with some fun activities.  The year is flying by!!   Here’s an update on what’s going on next week.

Coming up Next Week:

Spelling:  Students should be working on their spelling homework by choosing one activity from each column, and one “extra” activity of their choice, any column.  The homework is due on or before Friday, 2/10. The test will also be on 2/10.  

Reading & Language Arts:  We continue our unit Culture and Traditions. I’m in the process of grading the country reports.  We’ll be starting on our “Culture Day” activity soon.  A letter and other information will be coming home shortly.

February Logs have come home.  The Six Flags Great America “Read to Succeed” sheets are due on Monday.  This activity is totally optional.

Social Studies: We have finished reading our culture chapter in reading. The test on Chapter 3 will be on Tuesday 2-7. The study guide is due on Monday 2-6.

Science:   We will be finishing our last lesson on Chapter 11 matter this week. The chapter test will be the following week. A study guide will come on soon.

Mrs. Mandru's Math Class:  We are working a lot on multiplication and division stories. We are actually writing our own that students are going to solve this week! Also, the X4 test will Friday, 2-10. A practice sheet will be sent home on Monday.
