Week of September 11-15

Happy Friday everyone!   I just want to remind you all to check your child’s assignment notebook (planner) every night and sign it.  This is a handy form of communication and also a way for your child to get a punch in their punch card!

Spelling:  We have been working on activities in class. They have submitted them for seesaw when they are complete. 3 assignments should be done by Friday. Anything that is not done will be sent for homework over the weekend. The test will include 15 words from the student's list (teacher's choice) and 2 sentences, using any of their 2 words.

Reading & Language Arts:  This week we will start informally writing in our composition books; we’ll be focusing on narratives.  We’ll also start our first reading unit, Tales as Old as Time.

Please remember to keep track of your child’s reading (20 minutes, 20 days) on the pink reading log they brought home yesterday.  They will turn it in on or before September 29th.

Social Studies:  Our first graded quiz was a success!  This week, we’ll start a unit on oceans and continents.  I’m looking at 9/19 as a tentative quiz date for this information.  There will, of course, be a study guide coming home next week.

Science:   We won’t be starting science yet.

Mrs. Mandru's Math Class:  This week we’ll be focusing on subtraction.  There will be a quick checkpoint quiz this coming Monday on addition and subtraction.

Important Dates:
9/27 - Early Dismissal

Have a great weekend!!

Week of September 5-8

Happy Labor Day weekend everyone!  Thank you to all the parents who came out for Curriculum Night.  If you were unable to attend or would like to revisit our third grade slide presentation, please email me and I will send home a paper copy with your child.  There seems to be a “glitch” sharing the link, but I’m happy to get you a copy if you weren’t here, or just need to revisit what I shared with you all.

Spelling:   On Tuesday, your child will be bringing home a word sort. They will do the acitiviteis in school and seesaw them/bring them home when they are done. The test over 17 words will be on Friday, September 17th.

Reading & Language Arts:  We will continue focusing on various reading skills using fun literature.  This week our books will be Lost and Found, Pigsty, Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day, and Zoom.  Our skills studied will be setting plot & theme, and main idea & details.

Please remember to keep track of your child’s reading (20 minutes, 20 days) on the pink reading log they brought home yesterday.  They will turn it in on or before September 29th.

Social Studies:  We’ve been studying directions.  A study guide will be going home today.  The quiz will be on Thursday, 9/7.

Science:   We won’t be starting science yet.

Mrs. Mandru's Math Class:  Welcome to the math portion of my blog!  If you were unable to attend and would like my handout about the Bridges units, please email me and I’ll get it to your child.  We’ll be focusing on the addition table and the subtraction table this week.
