Week of September 4-7

Happy Labor Day! I hope everyone enjoys your three day weekend and gets plenty of rest!
It was great to see everyone at Curriculum night. I really enjoyed getting to talk with lots of families. We are off to a great year already!

A few reminders:

No School on Monday
Please sign your child's planner daily.
Please label all envelopes sent in with your child's name, their grade, what is in the envelope, and my name.
Our class will be taking Math MAP tests on Wednesday, 9/5.  Please make sure your child gets enough sleep on Tuesday.
Math:
It was great to finally meet all my Math students today! We played a name game, so quiz your child and see if they can remember their classmates names! This week we start with Chapter 1, place value. We'll be focusing on points on a number line, and place value with 3 and 4 digits. There will be homework every night. If the homework is light on any particular day, use those flash cards to practice math facts. We will be having a graded review (mini-quiz) the week of the 9/10. Enjoy your weekend!
Spelling:
First lesson of the year – Pretest Tuesday, Homework due on Thursday, and the Test Friday.
English:
We will begin English with Unit 1, we focus on complete sentences; statements; questions; commands; and exclamations.  A graded review of these topics will be on Friday, 9/7.
Reading:
We will begin our reading curriculum with an introduction to our reading strategies. We will be using a variety of literature and activities to preview the strategies that we will focus on through out the school year.

Social Studies:
We will study directions. Students will learn about cardinal and intermediate directions.  A study guide went home today (Friday).  A directions quiz will be on Thursday, September 6th.
Science:
Science will begin shortly, we are focusing on Social Studies for now.
