Week of January 7-January 11

All the third grade elves, as well as Mrs. Forsman's penguins, decided to have a party in the teacher's lounge. They did some damage, but it looks as though they had a great time. I know Elfredo had a blast with our class this year. We will have to say godobye to him until next Christmas!

We have MAP's- Reading testing on Tuesday, January 8 at 8:05. Please make sure your child gets a good night's rest Monday night and a healthy breakfast so they are well prepared for the test. The Math MAP's test is on Wednesday at 9:15.

Thank you so much for the class gift and all the other gifts! I feel so blessed to be teaching such a wonderful group of students.

I can’t believe it but it is holiday break already. Time is flying by.

If you haven’t done so already please have your child bring in $7.50 by Wednesday Jan 9. We have some scientists coming to our school to do a lot of fun experiments with the students in regards to matter, since we just finished this unit! Matter MATTERS!

Thank you to the students who donated to the treasure chest this week! If you would like to donate to the treasure chest, that would be very helpful.

Math:
We will be starting chapter 6-data when we return from break. We will also focus on our times 2’s. The multiplication test will be on Friday 1/11/13.

Reading:
Our Christmas around the world presentations were fabulous. We learned all about other countries' traditions. When we return we will be focusing on a story call The night of the Pufflings. Our skill we will be working on is fact and opinion. There will be a vocab quiz on the words from the story the following week.

Spelling:
We will be working on list 13. The Pretest is on Monday and the final test will be on Friday. If your child gets 0,1, or 2 wrong on the pretest they will have 2 challenge activities and the cursive sheet, they have the option to take the test on Friday. If they get more than 2 words wrong, they will have the regular work. (Cursive sheet and two assigned activities) The homework is due on Thursday.

English:
We will start unit 3-Verbs when we come back. The pretest will be on Monday.

Social Studies:
Our class is all done learning about government. When we return we will start chapter 3-Culture. This chapter will include learning about different cultures, as well as, why people moved to the U.S.A. You can expect to see things coming home about a culture day presentation in the coming weeks.

Science:
We are done studying matter, but we will continue working on projects that involve matter. Tuesday the students will need to bring to school something they can taste, as well as something they can hear.
Also, if you have a spare magazine or two at home and would like to donate it to the class for a project, that would be very helpful.
I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday season! I will see you all NEXT YEAR!
