Week of January 22-25

There is no school on Monday, January 21 in honor of Martin Luther King Jr.

We have our Class Spelling Bee on Wednesday, January 23. The list was sent home to practice for the bee. The last two people standing will proceed to the third grade spelling bee.

Thank you to the students who donated to the treasure chest this week! We are running low on treasure chest items, so if you are doing some cleaning and purging this weekend and fins something to donate, we would love it!

Math:
We have started chapter 6-data and graphs. We will continue with this chapter and the test over chapter 6 will be the following week. I believe last week I said we will be studying X3; that will be this week. The multiplication test will be on Friday 1/25/13

Reading:
We have started book buddies. Each student has been paired up with another student according to a “good fit book”. The students filled out a calendar and have been reading a chapter or more a day in class. Then they fill out a prediction/summary packet on what they read. They have been doing a great job with this so far. We will continue book buddies this week finish the books on Friday.
Spelling:
We will be working on list 15. The Pretest is on Tuesday and the final test will be on Friday. If your child gets 0,1, or 2 wrong on the pretest they will have 1 challenge activities and the cursive sheet, they have the option to take the test on Friday. If they get more than 2 words wrong, they will have the regular work. (Cursive sheet and two assigned activities) The homework is due on Thursday. There will be one less assignment this week because of the day off.

English:
We are continuing our verbs unit. This week we worked on lesson 4 and 5. Next week, we will focus on 6 and 7.

Social Studies:
We are continuing chapter 3-Culture. Each student was given a day that they will present to the class. The week of the presentations will be February 5-8. The students should all at least have a poster representing the country they came from as well as some real pictures or internet pictures. It is a good idea for the students to have note cards to use the day they have their presentations. They will be graded on both their oral part of the presentation as well as the poster/other extra items.

Science:
We started chapter 14-heat, light , and sound. We will continue with this chapter throughout the week.
Have a wonderful 3 days off!
