Week of August 28-September 1

We had a very busy first week getting to know each other, learning expectations, and organizing! But I think we are on a great path for a wonderful year! Families, please make sure you check my blog weekly; I will put out an email with the link every Friday.Next week will be just as busy with some important things to remember...

Tuesday, August 29th...Math MAP test

Picture Day is Wednesday, 8/30
Wednesday, August 30th...Curriculum night 6:30-8:00
Thursday August 31st...ELA Math test

Coming up Next Week:
Spelling:  We are continuing the spelling series Words Their Way.  Fortunately, the students have worked with this program in 2nd grade.  I will be taking an inventory on Monday and the students will be working with patterns they struggle with during Word Work in Daily 5.  I should have their word sorts to them by the end of next week.  We’ll officially start the “menu homework” after Labor Day weekend.

Reading & Language Arts:  We’ll be starting our year focusing on various reading skills using fun literature.  This week our books will be Chrysanthemum, Recess Queen, and If you Give a Mouse a Cookie.  The skills studied will be character traits, theme, and cause and effect.

On Thursday, students will be bringing home their September reading log.  I expect my students to read for 20 days, 20 minutes.  I know many read more than that, but this log will be part of their grade.

Social Studies:   We will start Social Studies by learning about cardinal directions and intermediate directions.

Science:  We will not start Science yet!

Mrs. Mandru's Math Class:  We will have our first math class on Monday, August 28. I am excited to meet your child!

Important Dates:
9/5 - Labor Day (no school)

9/27 - Early Dismissal

I can not wait for a great year with your child! If you need to reach me, the best way is email: mmandru@ccsd66.org
