Math
In Math this week, we are beginning chapter 3 Addition.We will start with lesson two and work through the chapter. A graded review on adding two and three digit numbers will be on Monday, October 15, 2012. You can expect a chapter test towards the end of that week. Please continue to practice math facts with your child.
Spelling
We will be on List 7 this week. The Pretest is on Tuesday and the final test will be on Friday. If your child gets 0,1, or 2 wrong on the pretest they will have 2 challenge activities and the cursive sheet, they have the option to take the test on Friday. If they get more than 2 words wrong, they will have the regular work. (Cursive sheet and two assigned activities) The homework is due on Friday since we have a four day week.
Reading
We will continue to focus on inferencing this week with the story "Ballad of Mulan". A vocabulary test on the words from the "Balad of Mulan" will be Wednesday, October 10, 2012. There will also be an open book comprehension quiz on the story on Friday, October 12, 2012. We have also been working on Extended response in class. This is a difficult skill that we will work on all year long.
English
We will be finishing up our "Me Bag" speeches. If your child did not perform on Friday, they will on either Tuesday or Wednesday. Later in the week we will start our descriptive writing unit.
Social Studies
We will continue working on continents and Oceans. A quiz over the 7 continents and 5 oceans will be Thursday, October 11, 2012. They will need to know where they are on a map.
Science
In Science, we are finished with Chapter 9-weather. We will be taking a break from Science this week and focusing on Social Studies.
